MEXT stands for the Ministry of Education, Sports, Culture, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan and offers scholarships for Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral Degrees in the fields you have studied in Your Country. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in Japan accepts applications from Japanese universities for the Ritsumeikan University MEXT Scholarship, which is a systematic scholarship funded by the Japanese government. The programme is known as “Monbukagakusho” in Japanese or “MEXT” in English.

- Certified transcript reflecting marks from the most recent college or institution attended for an undergraduate or graduate degree programme. The degree that graduates of graduate school abroad have been conferred must be included on the certificate (Master’s, PhD, etc.). (PhD, master’s, etc.). The number of credits and the year/period of credit acquisition must be stated for each course taken. *Should include or be followed by a straightforward description of all potential levels used in grade assessment, i.e. A, B, C, D, Fail, etc…)
- Formal and official certificate of graduation or future graduation or completion of the programme or expected completion of the programme from the most recent university or college attended (Undergraduate or Graduate degree program)
- (Optional) Records (e.g., GPA, grades and criteria, individual rank order) from the most recent institution that demonstrate exceptional academic accomplishment with a high success predictor
- If you haven’t written a thesis, your abstract should be a succinct synopsis—no more than two pages—of your most recent published article, graduation project, term paper, etc.
- A copy of a passport page containing the name and date of birth of the claimant, or a copy of the family registry or certificate of residence.
- Documentation that provides objective confirmation of the degree of English or Japanese language capacity, regardless of the language you use.

- You may not have Japanese nationality and you are a resident of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.Â
- The applicant must be physically and mentally fit.Â
- They must have been born on or after April 2, 1991.Â
- Be willing to enter Japan by mid-September 2026.Â
- Have a CGPA for the last two years of formal study equal to or greater than 2.30 out of 3.00.Â
- Be prepared to receive a student visa and enter Japan for study upon acceptance of the scholarship.

11th December 2025 is the last date to apply for the Ritsumeikan University MEXT Scholarship in Japan 2026-27. All application materials must be received within the application period. Documents that arrive after the deadline but are postmarked by that date will not be approved. Walk-in, fax, or email applications will not be approved.
